Based in Michigan but with a nationwide presence at card shows, SSS Sports Cards offers a selection of investment-worthy, PSA-graded cards from various professional sports. One of the highly touted baseball players SSS Sports Cards deals with is Shohei Ohtani.
Described by SSS Sports Cards as a “big league unicorn from Japan,” Ohtani is unique in that he pitches for the Angels but also takes on DH responsibilities that showcase his prowess at the plate. His first regular issue card was in the flagship 2018 Topps Series 2. Abundantly printed, the issue can be purchased for under $40 in PSA 9, while a PSA 10 gem mint copy sells for more than $130. The 1/1 Topps Superfractor parallel of this issue is much more expensive, having sold for $184,000 in 2018.
Interestingly, the player’s first-ever US issue came in the 2017 Bowman Chrome series, when Ohtani was depicted as a Japan team member pitching in the World Baseball Classic. The Mega Box Prospects Refractor version of the card brings in more than $1,000 in a PSA 10 grade, while the 1/1 Black Refractor, with a BGS 9.5 grade, sold for nearly $13,000 in 2018. When it comes to rookie autographs, the Bowman Chrome autograph reigns supreme, with a red numbered-to-five parallel selling for $56,700 in 2022.
